The Artwork That Took Almost 40 Years to Create
For decades, the American sculptor Harvey Fite struggled to think of a suitable title for his ever-evolving earthwork, until the name “Opus 40” came to him. “Opus” meaning “work” in Latin, and “40” because, all told, he estimated that it would take him 40 years to complete his masterpiece.
In our age of mass-production devoid of quality, care, and craftsmanship, Opus 40 stands out as a monumental labor of love. Join us as we wander its meandering bluestone pathways, where Fite’s extraordinary story unfolded and, tragically, came to an end.

In our newest episode, I indulge my burgeoning fascination with the decorative arts by speaking with silver scholar extraordinaire Ben Miller. As the Director of Research at S.J. Shrubsole, one of the world’s preeminent antique dealers specializing in British and American silver, Ben spends his days sleuthing for the stories of rare silver treasures. We had the pleasure of visiting Ben in Shrub...
Exploring the Only American Museum Devoted to Italian Art 🇮🇹
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
Join us as we explore Magazzino, America’s only museum devoted to Italian art. For many of us, “Italian art” prompts visions of imposing Roman sculpture; the regal Renaissance portraiture of Botticelli, Leonardo, and Raphael; and intense Baroque scenes immortalized by the likes of Caravaggio and Bernini. But Italian culture didn’t cease to exist after the days of the Old Masters. In the 1960s, ...
One Artist's Quest for Shangri-La

In the 1920s, the Russian-born artist and scholar Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947) led a mysterious expedition across some of the world’s most forbidding terrain. His purpose, he announced, was to document the rituals, monuments, and landscapes of Asia’s remote reaches. But he harbored a secret motivation. An age-old legend in the Buddhist and Hindu traditions speaks of a kingdom called Shambhala, ...

In the age of regal Renaissance portraiture, artists were tasked with formally-and of course favorably-capturing their patron’s likenesses. But Giuseppe Arcimboldo (Italian, 1526-1593) took formality off the menu with his whimsical paintings that were good enough to eat. As is often the case with free-spirited visionaries, the weird and wonderful William Blake (British, 1757-1827) was largely disregarded during his lifetime. Now we celebrate his blazing genius, which kindled a fantastical mythos of divine beings, profound works of poetry, and some of the most brilliantly bizarre images in British art. We’re delighted to present this video in collaboration with ...

The adventurous Albrecht Durer (b. Nuremberg, Germany, 1471-1528) was a man of many firsts. Francis was charming when he hadn't been drinking, but when he was drunk he could be obnoxious. I saw him and his boyfriend being kicked out of an art gallery private view because he was drunk and his young boyfriend was picking fights with everyone. Francis like rough trade. There is no doubt he was a master of modern painting.

If you get to go to Nuremberg, the old city, you will see a contemporary statue of a giant cast bronze Hare emerging from it's den and cruising all of it's children and all other smaller creatures in it's path. I believe it dates to the 1960's when students and artists alike were feeling pretty dammed repressed and overshadowed by the dominance of art created hundreds of years before they had their voice

The Global Anus Organization is moving the ships of Nazism (Nano chip) inside us. To organize people. White Nazi, Black Nazi, fighting shoulder to shoulder against humanity. We are at war. (With the cooperation of some Jews and some Brahmins, humanity is being corrupted and killed. EXACTLY AUSCHWITZ, THE SAME.) The same forces carried out the Second World War. He had progressed using the Brahmin Catholic church. The same situation is happening now. The Papacy is making "warning" statements to get rid of this situation. Same scenario. Stalin is expected!
